Registering a .co.za domain name yourself is easy. You need a few things though before you can do that. Also keep in mind that registering a .co.za domain will cost you R50 per year.
You need two things:
- A web host to serve your html pages.
- A DNS host to look up your domain (may be the same host as web host).
Simply put, your domain name is translated into an IP address by the DNS host. That should be the IP address of your web host that serves the content.
You can host both your content and DNS yourself (that's a whole other howto) or use any of the free or paid services that are available.
If your DNS host is set up, you can follow the instructions to register at http://co.za/ for your .co.za domain. Download the text form at http://co.za/coza_reg.txt and edit it in a text editor. Complete the form, filling in your details in the relevant sections. Sections 1, 2 and 6 are the important ones. Fill in the domain names of your DNS host in section 6, Primary server FQDN and Secondary server FQDN.
Copy and paste all the text and email it as a plain text email to coza-admin@co.za.
That's it. You should get a reply from Uniforum SA and everything should start working if everything is set up correctly and after the DNS propagated through the internet.
